Synthesis of medicinally important heterocycles
We recently completed a four-step total synthesis of the antimalarial indole alkaloid decursivine utilizing a photochemically induced cyclization cascade to provide the natural product in >50% overall yield from commercially available starting materials. This powerful method opens access to concise synthetic pathways to extracyclic indole alkaloids and we are exploring its application to a range of other natural products of medicinal interest.
