November 2013

Shota gave a talk at the International Symposium on Microalgae Biofuels and Bioproducts (11/21/2013, Tokyo, Japan). John gave a presentation at the 2013 AIChE Annual Meeting (11/7/2013). Gabe did a poster presentation at the 2013 AIChE Annual Meeting (11/6/2013).  Hisanari's paper has been published in ChemSusChem.

October 2013

John did a poster presentation at the CIFAR Conference XXXII (10/10/2013).

September 2013

Anna joins the lab as a rotation student from Chemistry. Trevor joins the lab as a rotation student from MGG. Taizo's isopropanol paper has been accepted for publication in Metabolic Engineering. Shota gave a talk at Sonoma State University (9/20/2013). Hisanari's article has been accepted for publication in ChemSusChem. Nicole & John's perspective article titled "Cyanobacteria as a platform for biofuel production" has been accepted for publication in Front. Bioeng. Biotechnol.   Shota gave a talk in Current Topics in Biological Chemistry session at the 246th ACS National Meeting  (9/8/2013, Indianapolis, IN).

August 2013

Iara's review article is the 3rd most downloaded article in 2013 in Journal of Biotechnology. The article will be freely accessible untile 10/31/2013. Austin did a poster presentation at the NSF-REU poster session. Shota gave two talks at the 2013 SIMB annual meeting (8/11-15/2013, San Diego, CA). Farewell party for Iara and Hisanari Shota served as a cordinator for the 2013 ACS project SEED. Pangying gave a presentation to complete the 2013 ACS project SEED. John has been selected for full support for attendance at the 11th Workshop on Cyanobacteria.

July 2013

Jordan's talk at ASM was reported in Biofuels. Iara's review article got 2nd place in most downloaded Journal of Biotechnology articles.

June 2013

NSF REU student Austin joins the lab for summer research. ACS Project SEED student Panying joins the lab for summer research. Gabe's talk in the ACS national meeting was reported by Glasgow and Tullman-Ercek in ACS Synthetic biology. Gabe gave a presentation at CBBA day (San Francisco, June 15, 2013).

May 2013

Shota gave a talk at the NSF symposium "Metabolic pathways in microorganisms for biofuels" (Davis, May 29, 2013). Jordan gave a talk at the 113th ASM general meeting (Denver, May 19, 2013). His talk was highlighed by ASM and was reported by Science Daily and Biofuel Digest. Noeli gave a talk at the 2013 Richard Larock Undergraduate Research Conference (May 18, 2013). Davis Chem, a team that is working to commercialize our isobutyraldehyde patent, won second prize at Big Bang competition (05/16/2013).

April 2013

Jordan gave a talk at the 2013 Western Section Meeting of the American Society of Plant Biologists (Davis, 4/13/2013). Gabe and John gave presentations at the 2013 ACS annual meeting (New Orleans, 4/9/2013). Shuchi's review in Current Opinion in Biotechnology is available online. Gabe and John won awards at the 2013 Interdisciplinary Graduate and Professional Student Symposium.    Gabe: Dean's Prize for Best Oral Presentation in Mathematical and Physical Sciences    John: People's Choice for Best Poster and Award for Best Poster Jordan gave a talk at the 3 year student seminar (04/05/2013). Shota joined the editorial board of Frontiers in Synthetic Biology as Associate Editor.

March 2013

Gabe gave a talk and Shuchi and Nicole did poster presentation at the Annual Biotechnology Training Retreat (3/23/2013). Christy's review has been published in Chemical Reviews. [Scientific American] Ramon Gonzalez (Rice) gave a seminar in our department (3/12/2013).

February 2013

Shota attended the workshop "Intrinsic Biocontainment: State of teh Science and Future Possibilities" at JCVI (Feb 28 - Mar 1 2013). Christy's review article has been accepted for publication in Chemical Reviews. John and Gabe assisted the writing. Jordan's paper was published in AEM and selected by the Editors for "Spotlight". Eric joins the lab as a Microbiology rotation student. J. Martin Bollinger (Penn State) gave a seminar in our department (2/5/2013).

January 2013

John gave a talk at the 3rd year student seminar (Jan 25th, 2013). John gave a talk at the DEB pizza chalk talk(01/14/13). (tweeted by Denneal (Associate Director, Biotech Program)) The manuscript of John, Iara, and Hisanari has been published [Pudmed]. This work was covered in many news outlets. [UCDavis News] [Science Daily] [Green Car Congress] [WIRED.co.uk] [Daily Tech] [Take Part] [Davis Enterprise] [abc News10] [California Aggie] [ESA] Andrew joins the lab as a BMCDB rotation student. Shota is on the Editorial Board of Applied and Environmental Microbiology.
